Born and raised in Katlehong, KingMouze whose real name is Jabulani Phambana is an entrepreneur, musician and actor formally known as Mr. Mabaso from the TV drama series titles "Is'thunzi". He grew up in Malvern - Johannesburg and is currently situated in Fourways.
According to KingMouze, he got his name from his high school mates who used to call him "Mouse". He further explained, "I got it in high school cause my middle name is Kondwani which sounds a lot like Gundwane (Mouse in English), so one of the white kids at school just started calling me Mouse and that’s where it all started and I formalized it with a “Z” to make it look and sound artistic, I took the King part from my father’s name “Nkosi” and that’s how KingMouze was born".
With the artist having been doing music for over 10 years, his motivation is to mainly encourage people to be prosperous in life, this you may also see from his twitter page. "I want them to listen to my music and feel rich. My music is an escape from the everyday struggles that we face, so when you rap along to my lyrics I want you to feel inspired to get out there and get it on your own", KingMouze said.
The artist recently released his debut single titled "Trendsetter" which is available on streaming platforms, we took the liberty of asking about the motivation behind the single and his response was as follows - "With Trendsetter I was so tired of listening to South African artists who are always embracing poverty and struggles as if it’s a good thing to go through so I wanted to set the trend and rap about prosperity and be believable, that was the whole motivation behind it". Trendsetter's beat was done by Swift whom is a beat maker from Mpumalanga and also collaborated with Osmosis who's on the second verse and Phow on the vocals. You can also check the song here
Aside from making music, KingMouze is the CEO and film producer for Mouzetrap Entertainment which is a TV production company and a record label. What people may not know about KingMouze is that he started off his music career alongside with the BET award winning artist Sjava as a duo by the name Amabheredi
