This week we got a chance to interview the young rapper from South Coast who goes by his stage name Axcel. The young rapper's real name is Swelihle Excellent Cele. He says he came up with this name as friends used to call him "Excel" then chose to go with it as his stage name. "My friends were calling me Excel so I decided to switch the E to an A" he said.
Axcel is a local #hip-hop/rap artist residing from St Faiths to be exact. According to the rapper he started with rap back in 2007 when he was still doing #Kwaito that has some rap flows in it but it was after some time that he discovered that rapping revealed his true nature and that is when he fell in love with it.
Any artist residing from small rural areas would tell you, if you want to make it in the industry you got to go to the cities where you will get a better chance on getting your music out there in the open, and for Axcel as well he had to move to #Durban in which he started recording his #music at that point.
Music of a genre is about conveying a certain message and as we didn't get a lot of time with the artist but we did get a chance to ask about the message that he conveys with his music, "love and self-confidence, that's all" he said. When you really take your time to listen to his music, you get the feel of self-confidence indeed on his music as he prides himself of his background and so his hustle.
Whenever Axcel performs, he keeps his audience in mind and the place he's performing at as those are the factors helping him in choosing which song to perform just so he can convey the right message and at the same time keep his fans moving.
